Investigations Division

The Detective Bureau is primarily responsible for conducting all follow-up investigations of reported crimes occurring within the Township of Brick. Cases are reviewed and assigned to a detective for a follow-up investigation based on several solvability factors, with priority given to more serious crimes.

Detectives are also tasked with crime analysis, surveillance in areas of criminal activity, the monitoring and maintenance of registered sex offenders (Megan’s Law), intelligence gathering, second hand goods database (pawn slips) as well as investigation of liquor licenses.

The Juvenile Unit handles investigations involving persons under the age of 18. The primary focus of the Juvenile Unit is rehabilitation. School resource officers are assigned to the schools in accordance with a cooperative agreement with the Board of Education. Detectives are specifically assigned to address matters relating to each of the schools in town.

The Street, Crimes Unit primarily investigates vice crimes related to the illegal distribution of narcotics, prostitution and quality of life issues.

In addition, the detectives encourage the sharing of information with members of the public. Many investigations are initiated as well as solved through this type of cooperative effort. Detectives are typically available Monday through Friday 8:00am to 11:00pm and available as “on-call” status to respond at any other time.
